Last day to get fast pass for Iowa Democratic Party’s 2020 Caucuses

first_imgDES MOINES — Today is the deadline to check-in early for the Iowa Democratic Party’s February 3, 2020 Caucuses.Everyone who participates in the Caucuses must check-in with party officials in their neighborhood and show they’re a registered Democrat who lives in the precinct. Iowa Democratic Party chairman Troy Price said on-line registration — now, today — hopefully means shorter lines of people waiting to get in on Caucus night.“It’s basically a fast-pass that allows people to move through the line quicker,” Price said, “jump the line.”The lists of registered voters in each precinct will be printed this weekend at party headquarters in Des Moines and be sent to each precinct leader for the check-in process on Caucus night. Price said Iowa voters who go to the Democratic Party’s website today and check-in early will get a confirmation form.“There will be an early check-in spot at these sites and they’ll be able to go and say: ‘Hey, I’ve got early check-in.’ They hand over the piece of paper and they’re good to go,” Price said Thursday during taping of Iowa PBS’s “Iowa Press” program that airs tonight. ‘This is the early check-in website for Democrats. Iowa Republicans are holding Caucuses on February 3rd, too, but are not offering this pre-registration option.last_img read more

Arrowhead or no Arrowhead, Raiders have their QB in Derek Carr

first_imgSo now the Carr-bashers are back after the latest Arrowhead Stadium debacle. And if Derek Carr played every game, or even a quarter of them, in the same manner in which he plays in Kansas City, it would be a slam dunk Raiders coach Jon Gruden would be looking for a new quarterback. The Raiders lost 35-3 to the Chiefs Sunday to end a 4-12 regular season that ranks with the worst in franchise history. National Child Protection Week – “Let Us All Protect Children to Move South Africa Forward.”

first_imgThe Minister of the Department of Social Development, Ms Susan Shabangu, led the launch of the National Child Protection Week (CPW) campaign on Sunday 27 May 2018 in Pretoria, Gauteng. This year’s theme for the week-long campaign is: “Let Us All Protect Children to Move South Africa Forward.”It is of great importance that every person takes up the responsibility daily to protect children and play their part in contributing to a South Africa where all its citizens can live in safety, peace and harmony. Children need special protection because they are among the most vulnerable members of society. They are dependent on others – their parents and families – for care and protection.Great things are done by a series of small things brought together, therefore, each person can participate in the CPW campaign by educating themselves and sharing with others The Bill of Rights in the Constitution Section 28 which states the rights that every child has;Every child has the right –a) to a name and a nationality from birth;b) to family care or parental care, or to appropriate alternative care when removed from the family environment;c) to basic nutrition, shelter, basic health care services and social services;d) to be protected from maltreatment, neglect, abuse or degradation;e) to be protected from exploitative labour practices;f) not to be required or permitted to perform work or provide services that –i) are inappropriate for a person of that child’s age; orii) place at risk the child’s well-being, education, physical or mental health or spiritual, moral or social development;g) not to be detained except as a measure of last resort, in which case, in addition to the rights a child enjoys under sections 12 and 35, the child may be detained only for the shortest appropriate period of time, and has the right to be –i) kept separately from detained persons over the age of 18 years; andii) treated in a manner, and kept in conditions, that take account of the child’s age;h) to have a legal practitioner assigned to the child by the state, and at state expense, in civil proceedings affecting the child, if substantial injustice would otherwise result; andi) not to be used directly in armed conflict, and to be protected in times of armed conflict.2. A child’s best interests are of paramount importance in every matter concerning the child.3. In this section, “child” means a person under the age of 18 years. The CPW campaign was initiated in 1997 to raise awareness about the need for communities to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation and other forms of violence and ill-treatment.Let us be reminded by the words of Nelson Mandela, in his speech at the dedication of Qunu and Nkalane Schools in June 1995 when he said; “our children are the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation. They will be the leaders of our country, the creators of our national wealth who care for and protect our people”.Share how you are Playing Your Part and protecting children in your home, school and community @PlayYourPartSA #Getinvolved #Bethelegacylast_img read more

Have You Generated Your Consumer Insights from IoT?

first_imgFollow the Puck Tags:#advantage over your competitors#analyze individual habits#consumer insights#Internet of Things#RFID tags AI is Not the Holy Grail of Sales, at Least Not… Sonal is a business analyst at Marketresearch.biz. She specializes in analyzing and managing various market insights. Well, have you? Have you generated your consumer insights from IoT?  Or even should you? The answer is a resounding ‘Yes ‘ – you must! If you don’t then somebody else will! It is becoming increasingly more important to use the internet to obtain ‘Micro Data’ to give yourself a business advantage. There is a massive gap between “Big Data” and “Micro Data”, isn’t there?  Or is there? “Big Data” is today’s buzz term, but what about the future? Is “Micro Data” going to offer business opportunities for companies in the future? Perhaps – let’s check out what consumer insights are available to those that promote MicroData over Big Data. Let’s forget the quote marks! What is IoT – the Internet of Things?  Using IoT in BusinessWhat is IoT? The term Internet of Things refers to the network of connected devices. Not just the connection between computers, laptops and cell phones and the internet, but of much more. Your power usage, kitchen appliances, and even your car may be connected together through the IoT. Any electronic device can be connected to another through the internet of things. Your power Smart Meter is part of IoT. Even your medical monitors may be connected. Pacemakers, heart monitors and even the device you use to measure your stats when jogging can be connected to the internet. Using IoT in business can give you an advantage over your competitors that don’t use it. The Internet of Things is sure to expand over the coming years, so how can you use it to give you more insight into the needs of your customers? In general terms, the Internet of Things involves every device that is connected to the internet. That internet connection is all that is needed for anyone to connect them all together. This can generate an amazing network of product manufacturers, their distributors or sales outlets and the customers – individual or corporate. According to Bernard Marr (‘Big Data in Practice’,  ‘Key Business Analytics’ and ‘Key Performance Indicators), the Internet of Things is going to be massive in 2018. Here are some examples of how IoT is being used to gather data and why it is being used.Banks and Other Financial ServicesPhysical bank branches are rapidly disappearing from the streets and malls.  The activity of bank customers or account holders in these branches was a good source of information about the banking and spending habits of account holders.  Because of this, banks and other financial services institutions had to find another way of collecting data. Wearable devices offer a low-cost solution to this.  The Bank of America and Fitpay got together to enable the bank’s customers to make contactless payments using wearables.  Barclays Bank has recently unveiled its UK bpay contactless watch payment system.  There are many similar systems either already in place or in process of development, Financial service providers are using the IoT philosophy to obtain data from ATMs, mobile devices, and various banking apps as it is generated. This enables the financial services company to analyze individual habits and the way they use the service.  By using an individual customer’s data, offers or promotions can be customized for each individual customer. This use of customer insights from IoT enables targeted promotions which produce far better results than a general promotional campaign. Smart vs. IOTThere is little difference between ‘Smart’ and ‘IoT’, Smart devices can provide information to the user that is also being delivered to another party.  The two-way connection between a Formula 1 racing car’s data and the engineering team is an example of this.  The data can help the team to make wireless alterations to the car’s set-up to improve performance. Such data links could arguably not be classed as a network, but a 2-way communication although it is a fundamental form of the Internet of Things. Telematics and Auto Insurance Another example of how IoT can be employed is telematics.  This is a form of science where sensors are used to provide information on a wide range of activities.  This information can be used to control remote objects. It can be used by auto insurers to establish the driving practices of individual drivers, their speeds, how heavily they brake and where they regularly drive.  Insurers can establish whether individuals drive largely at night, whether mainly on rural or on city roads, and whether or not you take proper breaks on long Journeys. This information can be used to set an auto insurance premium. You may one day receive a call from your insurer telling you that you drive too fast in speed restricted areas and that your premium is being increased because of this. This form of IoT can also be used in car sharing, where the availability of vehicles registered in the scheme is determined by GPS and provided to those needing transport. Ralph Lauren PolotechAnother genuine use of IoT is the Ralph Lauren Polotech Shirt.  Sensors integrated into the Polotech shirt can record a number of biometrics useful to athletes.  Among these are the depth of breathing, heart rate when running at measured speeds, calories expended and even the efficiency of calories burned with distance traveled. The data can be wirelessly sent to an iPhone or Apple watch. Using IoT in Intelligent Shopping  Stores can use RFID tags on their goods in a number of ways to make shopping easier for their customers.  Amazon Go:   Customers at Amazon Go physical stores can use the Go app on their smartphone to enter the store.  They then select their goods and place them in their shopping trolley, and when finished just walk out the store – no checkout queues!  Each item is tagged electronically and is registered as the customer leaves the store. The total is automatically charged to their Amazon account. Rebecca Minkoff:  Another use of RFID tags was applied by fashion store Rebecca Minkoff.  Smart dressing room mirrors could read information from the RFID tags attached to its garments.  Screens appear on the mirrors enabling customers to request alternative sizes, find suggested accessories to go with the item or even request a store assistant.  Internet of Things SummaryThe Internet of Things (IoT) can be used to generate consumer insights and so assist the business and the consumer in new and varied ways.  A smartphone is just one example of the ever-increasing world of IoT. Once you have generated your consumer insights with IoT, you will have a significant business advantage of those that fail to do so. The above are just a few of the many different ways in which IoT can benefit your business. 7 Quick Solutions for Battling Workplace Anxiety

first_imgMassive Non-Desk Workforce is an Opportunity fo… Tags:#better work environments#social anxiety#workplace anxiety#Workplace Culture Related Posts 3 Areas of Your Business that Need Tech Now The digital age has increased access to numerous aspects of our lives. From numerous social circles to news that affects your personal life and the world, it’s impossible to escape the overwhelming information overload that technology can bring to your daily routine. The numerous pressures that stem from the workplace can cause anxiety and affect the quality of your work. However, the stress created by the increased exposure to parts of your life also applies to the workplace. If you are someone who develops anxiety specifically from your job or already suffers from an anxiety disorder, then the constant pressure to stay connected can worsen your situation. It’s not all hopeless, though. By recognizing the signs of your anxiety and how it impacts your life, you can take multiple measures to manage your anxiety and improve your quality of life.Understanding AnxietyAnxiety is common among working people, and in situations in life where you can become stressed or worried about certain topics or outcomes. However, anxiety disorder is far worse, essentially involving consecutive patterns of anxiety, terror, and fear that escalates quickly.Combining an existing anxiety disorder with regular workplace stress creates a combination that can affect your productivity and well-being.How Anxiety Affects the WorkplaceAnxiety disorders are also, unfortunately, common within society. In fact, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, more than 40 million American adults over age 18, or around 18.1% of American adults, suffer from anxiety disorders each year, making it one of the most prevalent mental illnesses in the country. As such, anxiety can affect a large portion of your workplace. Workplace anxiety, particularly when left untreated, can impact not just your own productivity, but the entire atmosphere in the workforce as well. Some of the ways that anxiety affects the entire workplace include:Missed deadlines and projects, which impact productivity.Lower quality in work, which also impacts productivity.Gossiping and communication breakdowns between coworkers.Employees who are collecting grievances, rather than addressing them. Some employees avoiding problems by hiding. An outright toxic working environment.Symptoms of AnxietyPeople sometimes suffer from anxiety without ever noticing. If you identify the symptoms of anxiety, you can take the initiative and act against the condition sooner.Self-doubt. Second-guessing and self-sabotaging everything you do are signs of self-doubt, which is also a symptom of anxiety. This symptom stops you from taking any action at work, affecting your productivity.Worry. If you are unable to let go of your worries and you show constant concern about the future, you might suffer from anxiety.Sleeplessness. Anxiety causes your mind to remain active with worries or fears even during your sleeping hours, causing you to lose sleep and affect your well-being in the process.Muscle tension. Sometimes anxiety manifests physically as well. One of the common physical symptoms of anxiety is tight muscles throughout your body. Now that you have recognized anxiety and how it manifests throughout your life, you can take the appropriate measures to reduce its effect on you and resume your life without heightened fear.1. Unplug From TechnologyChances are your workplace will usually involve you using a computer for hours to get work done. Computers are therefore a large source behind the anxiety and stress from your work. Remember to take the time to walk away from the computer at least an hour a day to clear your mind and avoid staring at a monitor all day.Don’t just apply this to your work computer, but other devices you carry, especially if you use them for work. Constant contact with technology can overwhelm you with content and increase your stress levels. Walk around the office, and if you can, head to the break room to detox yourself from technology for a moment.2. Stay Active and StretchThe work routine usually requires you to sit in one place and stay there to remain focused and complete your tasks. Doing so can affect your physical health and increase your anxiety. Make sure to add some time to your schedule to exercise and keep your body active. Doing so will keep your mind and body healthy. When you’re in the workplace, try to occasionally stand up and stretch your limbs. Even something as small as moving your head around brings the refreshing motion to your body. You will prevent health issues this way and it works as a small break from anything causing you stress in your work routine.3. MeditateAnother activity that can help you relieve workplace stress is a simple meditation. Along with your exercise, try to fit in some time for yoga or another meditation activity that assists you in finding relief and relaxation. If you want to meditate in the middle of the workplace, you can still train your brain to relax in certain moments by using circular breathing exercises and closing your eyes. Take advantage of your work breaks to remove stress from your head.4. Drink WaterAnother simple remedy to the effects of anxiety is simply taking care of your body’s natural needs, which includes drinking water. Staying hydrated won’t cure the stress, but it can help you reduce some of the physical impact caused by it. Drinking water can also help you improve your concentration at work, thus making your day somewhat less difficult.5. Seek HelpSometimes, there are tasks in your job where you don’t understand all the details, or you become overwhelmed with too much work to accomplish. While asking your coworkers or your superiors for help can be intimidating, the discomfort is worth it in the long run. Your anxiety can decrease, and you will have an easier time managing your work. Plus, asking for help shows your superiors and your coworkers that you’re invested in your job.6. Keep a Reasonable ScheduleAs an anxious person, you might find times where you accept a workload and deadlines that you can’t realistically meet. Rather than create stress for yourself and cause productivity issues later, contact your coworkers or superiors and let them know you can’t reach the deadline. This might not work for every deadline, but your bosses might prefer to maintain productivity and assign you something else than to overstress you or deliver a project late.7. Strengthen Work RelationshipsA lack of communication with others leads to misunderstandings, unsolved grievances, and other problems that affect your office culture. You can reduce your anxiety by talking to other employees and building stronger relationships with them.To improve your communication skills and strengthen work relationships, try practicing the following measures:Learn everyone’s names and roles, at least within your divisionCommunicate via phone or in person, whenever possible, instead of just emailAvoid gossiping about other employees and bring up your issues directlyChange the subject or walk away if someone else is gossiping about another employeeRemain in contact with others, even when stressful situations tempt you to avoid themTaking Control of Your LifeTechnology and a growing connection between work and other aspects of your life that are meant to bring convenience and efficiency can also increase your anxiety, particularly when it comes to working.Taking the appropriate measures to manage your workplace anxiety will not just improve your job performance, but also will allow you to live a healthier, more balanced life. You may have anxiety in your life, but that doesn’t mean it must define you.
